Spotlight on the Indian Open 400m after Relay Team’s Success

Following the Indian men’s 4x400m relay team’s impressive performance at the World Athletics Championships, the individual 400m event – a crucial feeder for the relays – returns to the spotlight.

A Star-Studded Men’s Field

National record holder Muhammed Anas Yahiya headlines the men’s competition. He’ll be facing stiff competition from a talented pool of athletes, including Amoj Jacob, Noah Nirmal Tom, V. Muhammed Ajmal, and Arokia Rajiv – all part of the national camp.

Injury Sidelines Rising Star

Unfortunately, a recent abductor injury has sidelined promising sprinter Ramesh Rajesh. Coach Radhakrishnan Nair confirmed that Ramesh was in peak form during training but suffered the injury during his final pre-event workout. He is expected to be out of action for the next three weeks.

Women’s 400m Sees Notable Returns

The women’s 400m promises to be an exciting battle with the return of Priya Mohan and Rupal Chaudhary from injuries. Adding further intrigue is Poovamma Raju, who will be competing in her first individual 400m race in two years. Aishwarya Mishra, Dandi Jyothika Sri, Jisna Mathew, Simrajeet Kaur, V.K. Vismaya, and R. Vithya Ramraj are other prominent names to watch out for.

Beyond the Elite Level

The competition will also feature races for under-20 and under-18 categories for both boys and girls, providing a platform for India’s future generation of quarter-milers to showcase their talent.
