Glenn Maxwell helped Australia defeat the Netherlands by 309 runs on Wednesday with a 40-ball century, which is the fastest century ever at the Cricket World Cup.

Maxwell led Australia to 399-8 (50 overs) with 106 runs off just 44 balls, smacking nine fours and eight massive sixes.

David Warner, who achieved his 22nd one-day international century overall and his second consecutive hundred when he came in to bat in the 39th over, was overshadowed by Maxwell’s achievement.

But Maxwell was upset about the mid-match light and sound spectacle after the game, calling it “the dumbest idea” and said it gives him “shocking headaches.”

“Well, I had something like that light show happen at Perth Stadium during a Big Bash game. And I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches and it takes me a while for my eyes to readjust and I just think it’s the dumbest idea for cricketers.”

“So I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore it but it’s a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players.”

Australia’s next match is on Saturday in Dharamsala against New Zealand.
