IPL 2024 Updates: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season has witnessed its first player replacements due to injuries. Both Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have announced new additions to their squads.
IPL 2024 Updates: KKR Welcomes Young Afghan Prospect
KKR has brought in 15-year-old Afghan off-spinner Allah Ghazanfar as a replacement for the injured Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Ghazanfar, the youngest player in the IPL auction this year, has yet to make his international debut but impressed in the Shpageeza League, Afghanistan’s premier domestic T20 tournament. He joins KKR for his base price of INR 20 lakh.
Ghazanfar Inspired by Ashwin, Eager to Learn
Despite his limited experience, Ghazanfar possesses talent and aspirations. Citing Indian spin maestro Ravichandran Ashwin as his inspiration, Ghazanfar expressed his desire to learn from established players and contribute to KKR’s success. Although communication might pose a slight hurdle initially, Ghazanfar is confident that his on-field performance will speak volumes.
RR Bolsters Spin Attack with Maharaj
Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, have opted for a more experienced campaigner. South African all-rounder Keshav Maharaj joins the Royals’ squad as a replacement for the injured pacer Prasidh Krishna, who recently underwent surgery. Maharaj, a seasoned cricketer with 237 wickets across formats, brings a wealth of experience to the Royals’ spin attack.
Sangakkara Lauds Maharaj’s Addition
Royals’ Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, hailed Maharaj’s inclusion, highlighting his skills, understanding of the game, and leadership qualities. Maharaj’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes him a valuable asset, further strengthening the Royals’ overall squad depth.
Both Replacements Join Teams at Base Price
Both Ghazanfar and Maharaj were acquired by their respective teams for their base prices. Ghazanfar’s arrival injects youthful exuberance into the KKR spin attack, while Maharaj provides RR with a dependable and versatile player.
