They defeated the Gujarat Giants (GG) by a comfortable eight-wicket margin in match number 5. The match took place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on February 27th, 2024.

Gujarat Giants Bat First, Struggle to Set Challenging Total

Gujarat Giants captain Smriti Mandhana elected to bat first after winning the toss. However, their innings failed to gain momentum, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Openers Beth Mooney (7 runs) and Phoebe Litchfield (5 runs) were dismissed cheaply by Renuka Singh, leaving GG at a precarious 11-2.

Harleen Deol (22 runs) and Veda Krishnamurthy (10 runs) offered some resistance, but Sophie Molyneux’s double-wicket over put them further behind. In the end, the Gujarat Giants were restricted to a modest total of 107 runs in their 20 overs, with Ashleigh Gardner (20 runs) being the highest scorer.

RCB vs GG Match Highlights: RCB Chase Down Target with Ease

In reply, RCB openers Smriti Mandhana (43 runs) and Sophie Devine (6 runs) started aggressively, taking boundaries at regular intervals. After Devine’s dismissal, Sabbhineni Meghana joined Mandhana and continued the onslaught. The pair stitched together a crucial partnership of 67 runs, effectively taking the game away from Gujarat Giants.

Mandhana fell victim to Meghna Singh (1 wicket) but by then, RCB were well on their way to victory. Richa Ghosh (12 runs not out) finished the chase alongside Meghana (32 runs not out) in the 16th over. Thus securing a dominant eight-wicket win for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

RCB bowlers Renuka Singh (1 wicket) and Sophie Molyneux (2 wickets) were the pick of the bowlers, while Smriti Mandhana and Sabbhineni Meghana starred with the bat for the winning team. This victory strengthens RCB’s position at the top of the WPL 2024 points table, while Gujarat Giants will be looking to bounce back in their next match.
