Indian badminton fans can rejoice as two of their top shuttlers, PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth, are set to compete in the Madrid Spain Masters tournament starting today!
Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, enters the tournament seeded second and will face Wen Yu Zhang of Canada in her opening match. Last year, Sindhu finished as runner-up in Madrid, and she’ll be aiming to go all the way this time.
Srikanth, fresh off a semifinal run at the Swiss Open, will also be looking to make a strong showing in Madrid. He’ll play a qualifier in his first round match.
Other Indian Shuttlers at Spain Masters
India will also have several other players competing in the tournament, including Ashmita Chaliha, Malvika Bansod, and men’s doubles pairs Krishna Prasad Garaga/Sai Pratheek and M R Arjun/Dhruv Kapila.
Unfortunately, Lakshya Sen, who reached the semifinals of the All England Championships earlier this year, has withdrawn from the competition.
There will also be strong Indian representation in the women’s doubles category, with three pairs contesting the main draw. The highest-seeded Indian pair is Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who are looking to bounce back after a disappointing quarterfinal exit at the Swiss Open.
